Paso Robles wins CIF-Southern Section football title

Paso Robles High quarterback Justin Davis scored the game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run with 7:22 remaining tonight, and the Bearcats' defense did the rest, defeating Newbury Park 13-10 to win the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship game.

The Bearcats (13-1) won their first CIF-Southern Section division title since defeating Inglewood 43-40 in the Division X championship game in 2000.

Paso Robles star Bailey Gaither ran for more than 200 yards on the night. The Bearcats will find out Sunday if their season continues, and they are expected to advance to the Southern California championship game.

THIRD QUARTER UPDATE

Newbury Park took a 10-7 lead into the fourth quarter courtesy of a 13-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Prieto to Darick Holmes Jr. with six seconds remaining in the quarter.

HALFTIME UPDATE

After a 32-yard field goal put Newbury Park on the board, the Paso Robles High football team answered with a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead into the locker room at halftime of the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship game at War Memorial Stadium tonight.

Dario Longhetto connected on the kick for the visiting Panthers, and the Bearcats responded on the following drive when Justin Davis connected with Jonathan Baldwin for a 34-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-3.

The Paso Robles High football team and Newbury Park played to a scoreless tie through one quarter of the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship game at War Memorial Stadium tonight.
