Prep Roundup: Arroyo Grande edges San Luis Obispo in boys water polo

Conner Sandman scored the game-winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in double overtime as the Arroyo Grande High boys water polo team beat San Luis Obispo 6-5 on Tuesday in Arroyo Grande.

Ronan Paulson had five saves, while Josh Smith had three goals and Ryan Sverchek had two goals for the Eagles (5-6, 3-1 PAC 8).

“It was a battle. They are a solid team, and we are a close match up,” Tigers head coach Steve Jomaoas said. “We both wanted it really bad.”

Connor Troy had 19 saves for San Luis Obispo, and Bo Crozier had two goals.

Paso Robles 11, Pioneer Valley 4

Kohl Coffey had three goals, Gabe Hindley had 16 saves, and the Bearcats pulled away after a 2-2 first quarter.

Mitchell Iunker and Mason Steiner added two goals apiece for Paso Robles (4-7, 2-1 PAC 8).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Arroyo Grande 3, Atascadero 1

Ashlyn Herlihy had 25 kills and seven blocks to lead the Eagles to a 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18 win at home.

Emily Sonny had 16 kills, two aces and two blocks, and Alaina Hogeboom registered 49 assists. Jen Johnson came off the bench and provided a spark defensively, serving a key six-point stretch for Arroyo Grande (16-3, 6-0 PAC 8).

Kaylie Griffin and Katherine Sedley had 21 and 15 kills, respectively, and Brooke Harbottle had 38 assists for Atascadero (10-8, 4-2 PAC 8). Sabrina Degnan added 27 digs.

San Luis Obispo 3, St. Joseph 0

Holland Boege had 11 kills, Liesl Eibschutz added seven kills, and Merissa Brancart had 18 assists in the 25-15, 25-23, 25-15 win for the Tigers (15-5, 5-1 PAC 8).

Paso Robles 3, Pioneer Valley 0

Kalyn Armstrong had six kills and four blocks to lead Paso Robles to a 25-18, 25-19, 25-20 victory.

Coleen Wiest had 24 assists, and Kiara Gable had six kills, five digs and three aces for Paso Robles (10-7, 2-4 PAC 8).

Mission Prep 3, Righetti 1

Jennifer Laird had 15 kills to lead the Royals to a 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 win.

Eleri Perryman had 20 assists, and Madison Boncich had eight kills and three solo blocks for Mission Prep (7-2, 5-2 PAC 8).

Templeton 3, Cabrillo 0

Lucy Portillo had 10 kills and two aces, and Elsa Strysko added 10 kills, three blocks and two aces to lead the Eagles to a 25-22, 25-23, 25-15 win.

Lauren Ralston had nine kills, three aces and five digs, and Morgan Lawston and Emily Burns each had six kills. Josie Kelly distributed 25 assists and five aces for Templeton (9-1, 6-0 Los Padres League).

Morro Bay 3, Orcutt Academy 0

Sierra Emrick led the Pirates with 16 kills, 12 digs and 10 blocks in the 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 win.

Izzy Sala added 12 kills, while Keana Alden had 32 assists, and Ellie Fryer had eight blocks and eight kills for Morro Bay (6-4, 4-1 LPL).

Nipomo 3, Santa Maria 1

The Titans earned their first win of the season, 27-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, behind Lacy LeBlanc’s 43 assists and 13 aces.

Kendra Jackson contributed 36 digs and three aces, and Jordan Reynolds added 12 digs and seven kills for Nipomo (1-10, 1-6 LPL).

North County Christian 3, Valley Christ. 1

Aliyah Morrison had 24 kills and six aces in the 25-16, 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 victory.

Sister Gabrielle Morrison added 37 assists and 15 digs, and Madison Morrison had 16 digs and two blocks for the Crusaders (14-8, 4-1 Coast Valley League).

Coast Union 3, Maricopa 0

Gigi Stoothoff had seven kills and four aces to lead the Broncos to victory, 25-9, 25-21, 25-16. Patty Bucio had 29 assists, and Janelle Bohey had seven kills for Coast Union (7-4, 5-0 CVL). Reagan Kniffen and Diana Cisneros both had seven aces each.

GIRLS TENNIS

Atascadero 9 (75), Paso Robles 9 (73)

The doubles team of Victoria Thek and Charlotte Holt swept 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 to lead the Greyhounds (10-5, 5-3 PAC 8).

Nicoline Breytenbach also swept her sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.

Lindsey Horst, Katie Evenson and Krista Natividad all won two of three singles sets for the Bearcats (8-4, 4-4).

Arroyo Grande 18, Mission Prep 0

Jillian Burns swept her sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and the doubles team of Hannah Angle and Josephine Graeber did the same.

The doubles team of Melina Rodgers and Mekayla Landers also didn’t drop a game for the Eagles (12-3, 8-0 PAC 8).

San Luis Obispo 17, Righetti 1

Jenny Zakaria dropped one game in three sets, Sophia Moreno dropped one in two sets, and Maddy Handy dropped one game in three doubles sets playing with Joelle Lewis and Nicole Kasper for the Tigers (9-3, 7-1 PAC 8).

Morro Bay 11, Santa Maria 7

The Pirates swept their singles matches, and Alzbeta Hermanova remained undefeated in league play, winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

Tess Badrigian (6-3, 6-2, 6-1) and Skye Schwellenbach (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) were the other singles winners for Morro Bay, while the doubles team of June Janzen and Kaylee Denham (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) rounded out the set winners for the Pirates (5-7, 3-5 LPL).

Santa Ynez 18, Templeton 0

Templeton (3-9, 3-7 LPL) fell to Santa Ynez on the road.

Cabrillo 18, Nipomo 0

The Titans (3-9, 1-7 LPL) fell to Cabrillo on the road.

GIRLS GOLF

San Luis Obispo 243, Arroyo Grande 259

Neha Sikand shot a 6-over 42 on the front nine at Cypress Ridge and was the individual medalist to lead San Luis Obispo.

Isabel Carpenter shot a 47, and Lisa Figueroa shot a 49 for the Tigers (2-1 PAC 8).

Arroyo Grande’s leading scorer was Tessa Oates, who shot a 44, while Kinsey McBride shot a 47 and Rachel Parrish shot a 50.

Paso Robles 291, Pioneer Valley 328

Paso Robles’ Mary Hambly shot a 51 on the par-35 front nine at Paso Robles Golf Club and was the individual medalist, while Mikayla Stone shot a 53 for the Bearcats (2-1 PAC 8).
