Prep Roundup: Coast Union remains perfect in CVL boys basketball
The Coast Union High boys basketball team remained undefeated in the Coast Valley League as Quinten Raethke scored 19 points to lead the Broncos past Valley Christian Academy 58-49 on the road Tuesday.
Raethke also registered nine rebounds for the Broncos (12-8, 5-0).
Angel Avina added 17 points for Coast Union, and Logan Brandt had 11.
Shandon 69, Maricopa 47
Cicero Goddard poured in 31 points to go along with 12 assists and eight rebounds to lead the Outlaws (7-7, 4-3 CVL).
Beige Grassotti scored 17 points for Shandon, which was tied 26-26 at halftime but outscored the Indians 27-8 in the third quarter.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mission Prep 61, Orcutt Academy 23
Noelle Laird led the Royals with 19 points and nine rebounds in their rout of the Spartans.
Dolores Neal added 13 points for for Mission Prep (11-7).
Maricopa 45, Shandon 25
Ana Zendejas had a team-high eight points for the Outlaws (3-11, 0-7 CVL), who trailed 28-10 at halftime.
Maricopa’s Elizabeth Rowan led all scorers with 25 points.
BOYS SOCCER
Morro Bay 2, Nipomo 1
Luca Bruno scored the game-winning goal on an assist from D.C. Van Beurden with seven minutes remaining to lift the Pirates (4-14, 2-6 Los Padres League).
Carlos Moreno also scored for Morro Bay on a penalty kick in the first half.
Mike Arevalo scored for Nipomo (6-15, 1-7) on an assist from Andres Figueroa.
Oscar Loeza made 11 saves for Morro Bay.
Mission Prep 3, Orcutt Academy 2
Marcel Graingen had two goals and assisted on Eric Nyvsen’s goal for the Royals (5-6-4).
Justin McKeague had five saves, and Paul Tompkins had four saves for Mission Prep.
GIRLS SOCCER
Nipomo 2, Morro Bay 2, tie
Chloe Lindsey netted the game-tying goal for the Pirates with 10 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Emma Hotaling assisted the tying score.
Hotaling also scored a goal for Morro Bay (7-9-4, 2-3-3 LPL).
Vanessa Avila and Gracie Albano both scored for the Titans.
Julisa Soto and Yocelyn Lopez split the time in goal for Nipomo (8-8-3, 3-3-2).
Soto recorded one save, and Lopez had four.
Madelynn Martines had 11 saves for the Pirates, and Taylor Merrill had four.
Santa Maria 3, Templeton 1
Jeffrey Hammond scored the lone goal for the Eagles (6-8-2, 3-3-2 LPL) off an assist from Matt Jangaard.
Yusuke Yokota made four saves in goal.
WRESTLING
Atascadero 56, San Luis Obispo 11; Pioneer Valley 44, San Luis Obispo 12
Sophomore Max Benbris (138 pounds) won both of his matches for the Tigers (2-4, 1-4 PAC 7) with one pin and one technical fall.
Santa Ynez 56, Morro Bay 14
Joe Morris (106 pounds), Austin Andrus (120), Trajan Beecham (152) and Chris Maez (182) picked up wins for the Pirates.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Arroyo Grande 15, St. Joseph 5
Kate Empey led the Eagles (12-5, 5-0 PAC 7) with three goals. Isabella Manuele, Melanie Popovich and Brooklyn Vander Veen each notched two goals.
Goalie Alania Benson made nine saves, and Kayla Mankins had two saves.
Atascadero 13,
Pioneer Valley 0
The Greyhounds led the Spartans 10-0 at halftime.
Emily Ferree, Kyle Ferree and Emma Seitzer all scored two goals for Atascadero (14-7, 3-2 PAC 7), and seven players scored one goal.
Riley Brown had five saves and Lauren Giggy had two for the Greyhounds.
