Atascadero wins opening CIF state playoff game 69-62 versus L.A. County team

Atascadero High beat Warren on Tuesday, 69-62, in the Greyhounds’ first-round Division 3 state CIF playoff game.

No. 13 Atascadero (21-10) was down 36-31 at the half, then knotted the contest at 48-48 after the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth for the road win over the No. 4 Bears, of Downey, in Los Angeles County.

The Greyhounds were led by Steven Ernst, who tallied 20 points, and Shea Buckley, who recorded 19 points. Damon Mitchell played strong defense to limit Warren’s scoring down the stretch.

Atascadero faces No. 5 Colony, of Ontario, in San Bernardino County, in its second-round matchup on Thursday on the road at 7 p.m.

The game is scheduled to be streamed on the NFHS Network.
