Mission Prep rolls into semis. Here’s who advanced in SLO County boys basketball

In the second round of CIF-Central Section boys basketball playoffs, two San Luis Obispo County teams advanced and two lamented the end of their season.

Mission Prep showed up big again on their home court in a 62-51 win over Corcoran.

The Royals (11-17) are the No. 2 seed in Division 2. Mission Prep won 74-48 against Hanford on Tuesday.

In Thursday’s second-round victory, they were led by Jayden Nozil, a junior point guard who tallied 23 points. Roman Benedetti added 17 and Luke Jacobson had 12.

“We had a decisive and disciplined attack against their zone,” said Mission Prep Coach Terrance Harris. “The team is coming together well and the more consistent we are, the more opportunities it gives key guys to shine.”

Harris said that the high scorer can be a different player on any given night.

On Tuesday, it was Nozil, also a standout in football.

“Jayden is getting more and more comfortable,” Harris said. “He’s a great multisport athlete. That takes a little time to transition from one sport to the next. The second half of the season, he has really gotten more comfortable, and the team has come together as well.”

The Royals face Hoover next at home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
