Who was SLO County’s top high school football player in Week 11? Vote here

Five of the eight San Luis Obispo County teams that kicked off their playoff campaigns last week are advancing to the second round of CIF-Central Section playoffs, with plenty of standout performances across the board.

Based on that first round of playoff action, we’ve selected 14 candidates to choose from for SLO County’s top football player of the week.

The postseason comes after two Mission Prep players took the top honors for the Week 10 SLO County football player of the week reader poll to end the regular season.

Royals running back Drew Harrigan garnered 10,316 votes, of 50%, and Jack Susank tallied 7,780, or 38%. Paso Robles’ Jake Morones recorded 10%, or 2,048 votes.

A parent of the Mission Prep squad, which has gone 10-0 on the season thus far, supported the idea of Co-Player of the Week honors for the two leading Royals candidates in Week 10, as fans expressed an outpouring of appreciation for both players.

“Looks like Drew is going to win the vote, but Jack Susank is an amazing player, teammate, and just all around great kid,” the parent told The Tribune. “He deserves it as well.”

With the kind of season the Royals are having, some commenters even have suggested honors going to the entire offensive line, led by Caleb Alalem and Jadon Broyles, along with others on the fearsome front.

Check out our field of contenders for this week, and remember, you may also nominate a player by sending an email to nwilson@thetribunenews.com.

As always, the weekly poll closes at 2 p.m. Friday, so get your votes in.

Also, fans have until Nov. 19 to cast votes on the best student section in SLO County. So far, the surging Arroyo Grande Eagles’ faithful are topping the chart with more than 7,200 votes as of midday Monday.

The Eagles (8-3) have a four-game win streak and have posted 111 points in their last two contests, led by quarterback Max Perrett, Kaden Tynes, Makai Puga and others that have made big contributions.

Good luck in Round 2 as teams take the field again on Friday!
