Prep football wrap-up: Nipomo shuts out Templeton to open league play

Nipomo High School sophomore quarterback Brayden Groshart accounted for four touchdowns in the Titans’ win over Templeton (2-5, 0-1 Northern) in the teams’ Friday night Northern League opener. Groshart was 13 of 26 for 171 yards a touchdown and two interceptions through the air, and he added 71 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. His favorite target was senior wide receiver Jedu Matautia-Reyes, who finished the game with seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.
The win gives Nipomo (2-5, 1-0 Northern) an early advantage in the four-team Northern League and makes them the odds-on favorite to repeat as champion.
Santa Ynez 54, Morro Bay 0
Senior quarterback Dustin Gregg threw for seven touchdowns and 352 yards to lead Santa Ynez (6-0) to a win over Morro Bay (1-6).
Paso Robles 28, Arroyo Grande 7
The defense for Paso Robles (2-4, 1-0 PAC 5) shut down Arroyo Grande’s (4-3, 0-1 PAC 5) talented junior running back, James Gilmet. And Bearcats sophomore quarterback Hunter Barnhart threw for a long touchdown and ran for another in a win over the PAC 5 rivals.
Lompoc 49, Pioneer Valley 10
Lompoc (7-0, 1-0 Los Padres) scored all 49 of its points in the first half and cruised to a win over Pioneer Valley (3-3, 1-0 Los Padres).
