Prep roundup: San Luis Obispo boys water polo finishes second at SLO tournament

The San Luis Obispo boys water polo team beat Atascadero in the semifinals of the SLO Tournament on Saturday at Sinsheimer Pool, but fell in the finals to Clovis North.

Mark Olson and Jacob Donath scored four goals each for San Luis Obsipo in a 17-7 win over Atascadero in the semis. Jordan Troy added seven saves for the Tigers.

After being tied 5-5 at halftime in the finals against Clovis North, the Broncos turned it on in the second half for the 14-9 win. Olson led San Luis Obispo with four goals in the loss and Troy had eight saves.

The Eagles beat College Park 12-11 on the first day of their invitational Friday on the strength of four goals apiece from Donath and Olson.

Shey Dorji added three goals, and Jordan Troy recorded 10 saves.

San Luis Obispo (5-8, 1-1 PAC 8) will take on league foe Righetti (4-4, 2-0 PAC 8) at Sinsheimer Pool on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

San Marcos 10, San Luis Obispo 8 (Friday)

All three of San Luis Obispo’s singles players won their No. 3 matchup, while the Tigers’ doubles teams won five of their nine sets in a loss to a tough San Marcos team.

San Luis Obispo’s record falls to 8-2 overall. The Tigers continue PAC 8 play Tuesday against St. Joseph.

Morro Bay 16, Coast Union 2 (Friday)

Laetitia Messmer won her two sets, 6-0, 6-0, and the doubles teams of Karen Chumbe and Grace Ordonez and Camille Thibodeaux and Ellena Korisheli also won their two sets, 7-5, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively, to lead Morro Bay to the win.

Junior varsity doubles teams Bria Kula and Mira Patel and Megan Stickley and Amber Janzen came off the bench to each win a set 6-4.

The Pirates improved to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the Los Padres League.
