Prep roundup: Paso Robles boys water polo finishes 3rd at Conejo Classic
Paso Robles finished third in Division II of the Conejo Classic water polo tournament in Thousand Oaks over the weekend, recording three wins in four games.
Paso Robles beat San Luis Obispo in the third-place game Sunday on the strength of Zack Tucker’s eight goals. Mason Steiner added four goals, and Garrett Wilson, Jacob Cagliero and John Nash all had one goal. Iver Hansen recorded 14 saves in the win.
Paso Robles missed out on a chance to play in the tournament championship game earlier in the day when it lost to Santa Ynez 20-6. Tucker was limited to three goals in that match.
On the first day of competition, Paso Robles beat Oxnard 10-6 thanks to Hansen’s school record-tying 21 saves. The Bearcats also beat Calabasas 11-5. In four games, Tucker scored 26 goals, and Hansen made 62 saves.
San Luis Obispo won both of its games Saturday, beating Villanova Prep 12-11 and Foothill Tech 15-11. But the Tigers lost their first game Sunday, 15-11 to Bishop Alemany.
Paso Robles opens PAC 8 competition Tuesday again home against St. Joseph, while San Luis Obispo plays at Atascadero on the same day.

Paso Robles sweeps Morro Bay invite
Paso Robles runners led a sweep of Saturday’s Morro Bay Invitational cross country meet, with senior Trad Berti winning the boys race and Annie Meeder finishing first in the girls competition.
Berti completed the 2.74-mile course in 15 minutes. His Bearcats teammate, Luis Armendariz, finished third with a time of 15:32. San Luis Obispo’s Matthew White was fourth at 15:36, and Nipomo’s Joe Gocke placed fifth in 16:05.
Meeder completed the course in 18 minutes. She was followed by Arroyo Grande’s Rosa Granados (18:33).
