Morro Bay High graduate Matt Hansen lost 1-up Friday in the round of 16 at the Western Amateur Championship in Chicago and was eliminated from the tournament.
Hansen, who drained a 30-foot birdie putt Thursday to win a playoff and advance to the round of 16, lost to No. 1 seed Doug Ghin.
Ghin led 4-up through 10 holes Friday, but Hansen rallied to tie the match after 17 holes. On the 18th hole, Ghin made a bunker save and birdied the hole to win the match.
Hansen, who just completed his college career at UC Davis, will have one more amateur match this month before turning pro Aug. 15.
