Los Osos native and Morro Bay High graduate Matt Hansen shot an even-par 71 Wednesday at the Western Amateur Championship in Chicago to stay 2-under and tied for 21st overall through two rounds.
Hansen, who wrapped up his career at UC Davis by winning the Big West Championship earlier this year, shot a 69 in the first round at the 7,016-yard Beverly Country Club.
By being one of the top 44 golfers through two rounds, Hansen survives the cut and will play 36 more holes today. The top 16 from there advance to match play Friday and Saturday to decide the champion.
Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill., followed his opening-round 69 with an 8-under second round to lead at 10 under.
