The team of Paul Stankowski and Brad Payne leads with a score of 61 after the first of two rounds of the pro-am Straight Down Fall Classic at San Luis Obispo Country Club on Saturday.
Jason Gore and Kevin Marsh are in second place with a score of 62. Former Masters winner Fred Couples and partner Brad Shaw are in a tie for third with a 65. Couples and Shaw lost in a one-hole playoff last year to Scott Heyn and Corby Segal.
Heyn and new partner Chris Heintz are tied for third as well.
Tom Leman, the winner of the 1996 British Open, and partner Thomas Lehman are in a five-way tie for fifth with a 67. Scott Simpson, the 1987 U.S. Open winner, and his brother Dave also are in fifth.

Others in fifth at 67 are Brandel Chamblee and Jim Strickland, Mark Madson and Brent Brockermeyer, and Andy Shuman and Bob Stonikas.
Former Paso Robles High and Cal Poly standout Travis Bertoni and partner Marshall Williams are in a tie for 14th with a 69.
San Luis Obispo native Loren Roberts and partner Justin Hendrix are in a tie for 18th with a 70.
Former Atascadero High standout Roger Tambellini and partner Mark Nicoletti are also in a tie for 18th.
Cal Poly men’s golf coach Scott Cartwright and partner Ed Cuff are in a tie for 25th with a score of 71.
