The Cuesta College track and field team qualified eight athletes for the California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships by virtue of their finishes at the regional meet at Antelope Valley College on Saturday.
The state meet will take place May 20-21 in San Diego.
Arroyo Grande High graduate Joe Reeves and Joe Dreyer both qualified in the pole vault. Dreyer was second and Reeves was fourth in the event, marking the first time this year anyone has beaten Reeves this season.
On the track, Sean McDermott was third in the steeplechase and may qualify as an alternate in the 5,000. The 4x400 relay may also qualify as an alternate.

Decathletes Matt Tyler and Aaron Cheek qualified two weeks ago at the CCCAA Regional Heptathlon and Decathlon Meet.
The Cuesta men finished in fifth place as a team at the CCCAA Regional Meet.
Augusta Thomason continued her two-year undefeated streak and advanced in the women’s pole vault. Former Atascadero High standout Miranda Daschian won the 1,500-meter race, and Morro Bay graduate Madeline Ogle advanced as a runner-up in both the 5,000 and the 10,000 meters.
The three athletes accounted for 36 of Cuesta’s 37 team points as the Cougars finished seventh at the CCCAA Regional Meet.
