Cuesta softball team wins pair over Reedley, Hartnell

The Cuesta College women’s softball team improved to 2-2 on the season with a pair of wins over Reedley and Hartnell on Tuesday.

The Cougars rolled to an 11-2 win in five innings in the first game, using a seven-run 5th inning to end the game early because of a mercy rule.

Cuesta held on for a 3-2 win in the second game, when starting pitcher Demi Danell hit a three-run walk off home run to beat Hartnell.

Danell, a freshman, picked up the win in both games, allowing three earned runs over nine innings, with 13 strikeouts.

Former San Luis Obispo High standout Sabina Ybarra went for 4-for-6 on the day, including a triple, with four runs scored and three RBI.

Cuesta hosts Victor Valley on Saturday in a doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m.
