Cuesta men’s basketball team defeats Bakersfield 79-73
The Cuesta College men’s basketball team beat Bakersfield 79-73 at the Allan Hancock Tournament on Monday.
The Cougars were led by Rafail Eleftheriou, who scored 16 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.
Cuesta (12-5) had five players in double figure scoring, including 15 from Evgeniy Moiseev and 13 points from Daniel Solis, who was 4 for 5 from three-point range.
Karem Ozel notched four assists to go with 10 points for the Cougars.
Bakersfield is ranked 14th in the state.
“We didn’t shoot the ball extremely well, but we did shoot well from the foul line when the game was on the line,” coach Rusty Blair said.
Cuesta plays Rio Hondo at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and Fresno at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Allan Hancock.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Santa Ana 85, Cuesta 42
The Cuesta College women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a 16-point first half at the Grossmont Tournament. Autumn Russell had 14 points and six rebounds and Connor Storlie added nine points in the loss for the Cougars (4-10).
Cuesta shot 25 percent from the field and was 1 for 10 from beyond the arc.
