Cuesta College men’s basketball team blows out West L.A. at Grossmont Tournament

The Cuesta College men’s basketball team reached the consolation final at the Grossmont Tournament, beating West Los Angeles 94-52 in the second game of the tournament.

The Cougars will play Santa Barbara City College in the consolation final Sunday at 1 p.m.

After struggling from the floor in a loss to San Diego on Friday, the Cougars hit 49.1 percent of their shots.

“We shot shot 20 percent from the floor (Friday), 50 percent (Saturday),” Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair said. “That makes a huge difference. It was an excellent comeback game for us, which we really needed.”

Roberto Mantovani scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Cuesta (7-4). Reserve Ben Peterson scored 15 points in just 14 minutes of play, and Daniel Solis also scored 15. Karem Ozel added 13 points and five assists.

“We got everyone good minutes,” Blair said. “It was a nice breath of fresh air. That was our third straight buzzer beater (Friday night).”

Tuwuan Cargill scored 13 points for West Los Angeles (5-4).
