The Cuesta College women’s basketball team raced out to a big halftime lead and rolled to an 83-34 win over Merritt on Friday at the Los Positas Tournament.
Angelica Ramirez and Boomie Pierre scored 14 points apiece to pace the Cougars (1-1), who led 43-19 at halftime.
Mission Prep grad Connor Storlie had 13 points and 10 assists, while Maci Branstetter added 13 and San Luis Obispo High grad Biba Kirschner had 11 for Cuesta, which lost to Contra Costa 90-53 in the opening game of the tournament Thursday.
“It’s good to get the kinks out and get going,” head coach Ron Barba said. “We’ve got a young team. The key is practice. Practice to games, practice to games. That’s how you get better.”

The Cougars will play for the consolation title Saturday, against the winner of the Marin-Compton game.
