Cuesta College women’s water polo team splits pair of games at WSC tournament
The Cuesta College women’s water polo team went 1-1 at the Western State Conference championships Friday at L.A. Valley College in Van Nuys.
The Cougars (23-10), seeded third, got four goals apiece from Emily Crane and Morro Bay High grad Katie White in a 19-10 win over No. 6 seed Allan Hancock.
The Cougars then lost 9-4 to No. 2 seed Santa Barbara in a game Cuesta went 2 for 7 on power plays, had 24 turnovers and shot 4 of 16.
Goalie Sam Baker, a Nipomo grad, made 14 saves in the loss. Daci Hughes, Tarah Salazar, Crane and White scored a goal each.
The Cougars play Ventura on Saturday for third place, and need a win to have any hope of receiving an at-large bid in the California Community College Athletic Association regional playoffs, head coach Pete Schuler said.
