Cuesta shuts out Golden West in baseball playoff opener
The 13th-seeded Cuesta College baseball team opened the CCCAA regional playoffs with an 8-0 win Friday at fourth-seeded Golden West in its first playoff game in two years.
San Luis Obispo High grad RJ Hassey had a two-run single to get the Cougars’ offense going in the third inning.
Cuesta (21-16) ended up with a 4-0 lead by the end of the third and scored another four in the eighth to put the game well out of reach.
Alex Fagalde pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, allowing eight hits and no walks in the win.
Cuesta plays Golden West (23-14) again today at 11 a.m. With a win, the Cougars would clinch the series and move on to the regional round next week. With a loss, the teams would play again at 3 p.m. to decide the series.
