Cuesta basketball team sweeps L.A. Pierce

Benat Hevia hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining as the Cuesta College men’s basketball team topped L.A. Pierce 64-63 on Wednesday night.

The Brahmas led 30-28 at halftime and much of the game, but Hevia’s shot proved to be the difference.

Hevia finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Tayler Thompson had 16 points, and Evgeniy Moiseev had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars (12-7, 2-1 Western State Conference).

Cuesta women cruise to easy win

The Cuesta College women’s basketball team rolled to a 90-31 victory over visiting L.A. Pierce.

The Cougars (16-5, 2-1 WSC) raced out to a 41-14 halftime lead by holding the Brahmas to only six first-half field goals.

Kaylee Williams led the Cougars with 25 points, and Ashley Gamber added 15 as well.
