Ventura tops Cuesta in women's soccer

The Cuesta College women’s soccer team fell to Ventura 2-1 on Tuesday, allowing the winning goal just before the final whistle.

The two teams came into the game undefeated in the Western State Conference, but Ventura capitalized on a long throw-in in the 86th minute to take the lead for good.

Cuesta keeper Micaela Lewis had 10 saves but was unable to ward off Melissa Aldrete’s last-minute shot.

The Cougars (6-4-2, 1-1-2 WSC) lone goal came from Karolina Rendon in the 51st minute off an assist from Serena Hughes to tie it 1-1.
