Cuesta women's water polo team splits two games at host tournament

The Cuesta College women’s water polo team opened the Rabobank Classic by going 1-1, defeating Santa Rosa Junior College 15-9 and falling to 2014 California Community College Athletic Association champion Fullerton College 17-11.

In the game against Santa Rosa, Arroyo Grande High graduate Isabella Manuele led the Cougars (16-3) with five goals, Abby Van Kirk contributed a career-high three and Rebekah Hernandez and Emily Crane each added two goals. Hannah Brumley led the team with two saves, and Ande Miller had one.

Hernandez and Manuele, both freshmen, led the Cougars with three goals apiece in the team’s loss to Fullerton, which extended its winning streak to 47 games. Crane and Tarah Salazar each added two goals for Cuesta.

The Cougars, who host the tournament, will play in the second-place bracket Saturday, facing Long Beach City College and Santa Barbara City College.
