Cuesta men's water polo wins West Valley Tournament
The Cuesta College men’s water polo team won the championship game at the West Valley Tournament on Saturday, beating West Valley 14-10.
In the Cougars’ first game of the day, Cuesta beat Riverside 10-9, led by goalie Clint Doucette, who had 10 saves. Christian Emerson had three goals, and John Hartshorne and Gabe DeSimone each had a pair of goals for Cuesta (4-0).
In the championship game, Emerson had eight goals, and DeSimone and Hartshorne combined for nine steals and eight assists. Cuesta jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and led 9-7 at the half.
Goalie Sal Arredondo finished with eight saves.
Cuesta hosts its own tournament beginning Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against defending state champion Golden West.
