College roundup: Cuesta women’s basketball tops Redwoods in Hawks Classic
The Cuesta College women’s basketball beat College of the Redwoods 70-43 in the first round of the Hawks Classic tournament in Las Positas on Thursday.
The first quarter was neck and neck, ending with Cuesta holding a 12-11 lead. After a big second quarter from the Cougar offense, Cuesta was able to take a 36-20 halftime lead.
The Cougars scored 20 more points in the third and 14 more in the fourth before clinching the victory.
Tawny Lino led the Cuesta offense with 22 points, followed by Taylor Neal with 13 and Camille LeBlanc with 12.
The Cougars (2-2) play Modesto in the semifinal game Friday.
Cuesta volleyball falls to Moorpark
The Cuesta College women’s volleyball team was swept 27-25, 25-14, 25-14 by Moorpark in a Western State Conference matchup on Wednesday. Moorpark was led by Meghan Conlan’s 19 kills.
Cuesta’s Maren Cracknell had six kills, and Kelly Cole added five. Sage Kelly and Mariah Hall combined for 19 assists on the night. The Cougars (11-10, 2-5 WSC) wrap up their season Friday at Allan Hancock at 6 p.m.
