Cal Poly volleyball opens season with win over Rice

The Cal Poly volleyball team opened the season with 3-1 win over Rice on Friday at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah. The Mustangs won 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, led by sophomore Adlee Van Winden’s team-high 19 kills.

Three other Mustangs had double-digit kills, including Taylor Grunewald with 15, junior Raeann Greisen with 13 and sophomore Alexis Clewis with 11.

Junior Taylor Nelson had 54 assists.

The Mustangs continue play in the tournament on Saturday, facing Utah Valley at 9 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. against the host, No. 13 ranked BYU.
