College roundup: Cal Poly softball team swept by Cal State Fullerton
The Cal Poly softball team was swept by the Cal State Fullerton, losing 2-1 on Sunday at Bob Janssen Field and remained winless in Big West Conference play.
Cal Poly has lost 11 games in a row after a 16-6 start and have fallen into last place in the conference.
Stephanie Heyward had two of Cal Poly’s four hits, including a triple, and scored a run. Sierra Hyland had the other two hits and an RBI for Cal Poly (16-17, 0-6 Big West).
Heyward (0-4) allowed two runs — one earned — in 3 2/3 innings for the Mustangs.
Lindsey Chalmers came on and finished the game with 3 1/3 innings of two-hit relief.
Desiree Ybarra (10-5) struck out three in five innings for the Titans (31-10, 6-0 Big West). Sydney Golden pitched the final two innings, striking out two and allowing one walk to earn her first save.
MEN’S TENNIS
Cal Poly 4, UC Irvine 1
The Mustangs won their second straight road match Sunday.
Corey Pang, Axel Damiens and Sreyas Kolachalam each earned singles wins. Garrett Auproux and Tim Tan and Karl Enander and Dan Cardiff won doubles matches for Cal Poly (11-8, 3-0 Big West Conference).
