Cal Poly baseball evens series with Fullerton on extra-inning walk-off win
The Cal Poly baseball team ended a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon in walk-off style, getting a Josh George sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 10th inning.
The fly to score Kyle Mariconz gave the Mustangs a 1-0 win to even the three-game Big West series at Baggett Stadium heading into Sunday’s finale.

The Mustangs loaded the bases with one out after a Marinconz single, Brett Barbier double and a John Schuknecht intentional walk. George would then fly out to deep center for the walk-off win.
Sophomore Erich Uelmen (4-0) had another strong outing for the Mustangs, lasting 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, striking out six and walking four. Justin Calomeni picked up the win in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing one hit.
Cal Poly (18-11, 1-1 Big West) loaded the bases twice before the 10th — once in the third inning and again in the seventh, each time failing to produce a hit.
Uelmen escaped several jams of his own, inducing a Titan double play with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and stranding a runner at third in the fifth inning.
Cal State Fullerton (18-10, 1-1) was paced by Cole Eastman, who went 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, striking out five and walking three. John Gavin was handed the loss in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Barbier’s double was the only extra base hit of the day for either team.
Up next: The third and final game is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Baggett Stadium.
