The Cal Poly men’s basketball locker room inside Mott Athletics Center will get a facelift by the end of the school year thanks in part to another athletics donation.

On Tuesday morning, the $175,000 renovation project received a lead gift from John M. Wilson, a Cal Poly alumni, local real estate developer and owner of Greengate Ranch & Vineyard.

The facility will be named The Wilson Family Men’s Basketball Locker Room and is scheduled to be ready for use by mid-June. The renovation will add new lockers, lighting, flooring, a hydration system and an audio-video system.

So far, more than $140,000 has been raised for the project. Three lockers remain to be named in perpetuity for a gift of $5,000, according to the school release.

“The facility will allow the current and future Mustangs to learn in a state-of-the-art locker room,” head coach Joe Callero said. “We watch hours of film together and our locker room represents more than just a place to change clothes. This is the intellectual headquarters of Mustang basketball.”

Cal Poly Associated Director of Athletics for Development Ashley Offermann said, “every gift matters for us to reach our $175,000 goal.”

Those interested in making a donation can contact Offermann at 805-440-9792. Gifts are tax-deductible through the Cal Poly Foundation and eligible for matching gifts from employees who offer that opportunity.

“The renovation for our locker room is another huge step for the program to continue in the right direction,” junior Ridge Shipley said. “It’s our team’s second home. It creates a great atmosphere for us and will attract potential recruits.”
