Cal Poly high jumper Taylor earns Big West athlete of the week honors

Cal Poly sophomore Danielle Taylor was selected as the Big West Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor earned her second victory in the high jump this year when she cleared 5 feet, 9¼ inches during the Big West Double Dual at UC Riverside on Saturday.

That mark was a 4-inch improvement over her previous personal best.

Taylor, a 6-foot-1 native of Bend, Ore., now ranks No. 9 on Cal Poly’s all-time list. She is currently tied with Nevada’s Kinsey Minter for the top mark in the country two weeks into the outdoor track and field season.

The Mustangs are scheduled to compete later this week in Montecito. The Jim Klein Multi-Event Invitational will be held Thursday and Friday, and the Westmont Classic begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
