Cal Poly softball pitcher Hyland honored by Big West

Cal Poly softball pitcher Sierra Hyland was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the second consecutive week she’s received the honor.

Hyland (7-2), who leads the nation in strikeouts with 104 this season, posted a 0.60 ERA and struck out 37 in four appearances last week. She won three games and earned a save. In 23 1/3 innings, Hyland allowed just 13 hits and walked six.

The Mustangs (11-4) won all five games they played in the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton.

Hyland was won the award nine times in her career, the most in school history and the fifth most in Big West history.
