Cal Poly men’s golf team takes fifth at tournament in Palm Desert

The Cal Poly men’s golf team finished fifth out of 20 teams at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.

Jesse Yap posted an even-par 216 on the 7,322-yard, par-72 course to finish in a tie for ninth.

Justin De Los Santos, the reigning Big West Conference individual champ, tied for 14th place at 3-over 219.

Gonzaga’s Sean Walsh won the individual title at 7-under 209. TCU’s Chelso Barrett was second at 5-under 211.

The Mustangs had a four-player total of 285 in the final round Sunday, the top team score of the round, and had a three-round total of 878.

Kansas won the title at 866, while Colorado (869) was second and Texas Tech (870) was third.
