Cal Poly golf team remains in fifth place at Palm Desert tournament

The Cal Poly men’s golf team remains in the top five after the second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate held at The Classic Club on Saturday in Palm Desert.

The Mustangs posted a 298 after Friday’s 295 for a 17-over 593 total on the 7,322-yard, par-72 course. Cal poly was tied with Wyoming for fifth place.

Kansas is first with a 1-under 575 total, the only team under par after two rounds of play. Texas Tech is second (580) and Colorado is third (581).

Sean Walsh of Gonzaga leads the individual leaderboard with 71 for a 5-under 139 total, one stroke ahead of TCU’s Sarosh Adi.

Jesse Yap is the only Cal Poly golfer in the top 20, posting a 146 total (72-74) that has him in a tie for 15th place.

The final round of tournament is Sunday.
