Cal Poly women’s basketball team downs CSUN on the road

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team earned a Big West Conference victory over CSUN, 77-66, on Saturday in a nationally televised game in Northridge.

The Matadors (6-20, 4-8) had opened a 6-2 lead two minutes in, but the Mustangs went on a 20-2 run to go up 22-8 with 1:52 left in the first quarter. The run came largely in part to sophomore Dynn Leaupepe, who scored 16 points in the first quarter, hitting 7-of-8 shots from the floor. Leaupepe finished with 24 points and six rebounds.

Beth Balbierz scored 13 first-half points and finished with 21 points and six assists.

Point guard Lisa Marie Sanchez had nine assists, and Hannah Gilbert contributed 16 points.

Cal Poly (13-13, 6-7) hosts Long Beach State (18-7, 7-4) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
