Cal Poly’s Davies sets school record in 50-yard freestyle swim
Caleb Davies broke Cal Poly’s school record in the men’s 50-yard freestyle in 19.80 seconds during the 200 freestyle relay, and sophomore Nolan Newland won the men’s 500 freestyle in 4:25.58 at the second day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Thursday at East Los Angles College.
The men’s side, after two days, is fifth overall with 169 points, while the women are seventh with 81 points. BYU leads the way with 312 points on the men’s side and UC Davis leads on the women’s side with 242.
Jack Jenner, Dominic Dalpaiz and Zack Allen teamed up with Davies in the 200 free relay for a third-place finish in 1:21.07
Davies finished in sixth place in the 50 free finals in 20.33. Pearu Pold was sixth in the 500 free in 4:27.93.
On the women’s side, Bonnie Diamond took sixth in the 500 free in 4:56.29.
Cal Poly continues the event Friday with the preliminary rounds starting at 10 a.m. and the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
