Cal Poly women’s golf team finishes 6th at Matador Invitational

The Cal Poly women’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Matador Golf Invitational as the final round wrapped up on Tuesday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club. It was the Mustangs’ first spring event of the year.

The Mustangs recorded a four-person 330 total on Monday, and a second round 335 and 313 final round — both of which were on Tuesday — for a 114-over-par 978 aggregate on the 5,839-yard, par-72 course.

Santa Clara placed first with a 945 total. Morehead State was second at 954. Hawaii was third with 960 in the 10-team tournament.

Morehead State’s Anna Magnusson claimed the individual title in a playoff with USC’s Amy Lee after both golfers finished with a 16-over 232 total.

The Mustangs were led by Madison Hirsch, who shot a final-round 78 for a 242 total and a tie for 19th-place.

Meredith Hirsch also shot a 78 in the final round on Tuesday for a 245 aggregate and a 23rd-place tie.

Cal Poly’s next tournament is Feb. 22-23 at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach.
