Cal Poly women’s tennis team defeats Westmont

The Cal Poly women’s tennis team swept Westmont 7-0 on Saturday at Mustang Courts.

“It was great to get a match under our belt before starting conference play,” first-year head coach Katharina Winterhalter said in a news release. “We came out today with a lot of energy and executed pretty well.”

Ilana Oluynik won her first collegiate spring singles match, a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Isabel Lee, and Emily Gibbens defeated Ines Costamagna 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Also winning singles matches were Molly Reed, Abigail Bacharach, Bryn Bacharach and Dane Joubert. The doubles team of Bryn Bacharach and Oleynik also won, as did the team of Reed and Abigail Bacharach.

Sunday’s match against UC Santa Cruz was cancelled because of the threat of rain. No makeup date has been announced.
