Cal Poly’s Taylor wins high jump at meet in Seattle
Cal Poly sophomore Danielle Taylor won the high jump event Saturday at the UW Invitational in Seattle.
Taylor cleared 5 feet, 7 inches — a personal best. She won the event on a tiebreaker, edging out Seattle Pacific’s Geneva Lehnert, Oregon State’s Sara Almen and Fresno State’s Jestena Mattson — all who cleared 5-7 as well.
Two other Cal Poly athletes earned top-10 finishes Saturday.
Mishe’ Scott was seventh in the long jump, with a mark of 18-1. Barbara Nwaba won the event in 20-3. Mustangs freshman Kalesi Budei was 21st at 16-7 3/4 .
Kendal Nielsen was eighth in the triple jump, posting a distance of 38-11 1/2 . Budei competed in the triple jump as well, taking 15th place at 37-0 1/4 . Cal Poly’s Juliana McCuaig was 18th at 36-6 3/4 . Andrea Guebelle won the event, jumping 43-5 3/4 .
Four Mustangs ran in the 60-meter prelims but failed to qualify: Dajiah Joe-Smith (7.84 seconds), A’Jah Love (7.89 seconds), Jessica Escalante (7.99 seconds) and Ralaina LiDrazzah (8.03 seconds).
In the 400, Mallory Patino set a personal best with a time of 59.46 seconds — good for 31st place — followed by Anna Carskaden (59.78 seconds), Nikki Boggs (59.94 seconds) and Chloe Carlson (1:00.64).
Nina Rondoni ran the 800 in a time of 2:25.36, good for 61st place in her first collegiate indoor 800.
