Cal Poly men’s tennis team beats Portland

The Cal Poly men’s tennis team held on to beat Portland 4-3 on Saturday morning at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Ben Donovan closed out the victory for the Mustangs, securing a three-set win over Mathieu Garcia, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Cal Poly’s Garrett Auproux beat Michail Pervolarakis at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3, Corey Pang topped Portland’s Pierre Garcia at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2 and true freshman Josh Ortlip downed Felix Fan in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to give Cal Poly the lead.

Portland would tie before Donovan’s comeback ensured a Cal Poly victory.

Donovan and Pang also had a doubles win over Pervolarakis and Fan, 6-4.

Cal Poly (1-3) hosts Saint Mary’s in the spring home opener Friday at noon.
