Cal Poly men’s basketball team wins in Fullerton
The Cal Poly men’s basketball team got their second Big West Conference win of the season, an 83-75 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday in Fullerton.
Reese Morgan led four players in double figures with 17 for the Mustangs (8-10, 2-3 Big West). David Nwaba and Luke Meikle added 13 apiece, and Ridge Shipley had 12.
Brian Bennett scored eight points, putting him over 1,000 for his career, becoming the 22nd Cal Poly player to hit the milestone.
Khalil Ahmad scored 23 points to lead the Titans (8-10, 1-4 Big West).
Cuesta men’s basketball team stays unbeaten in conference play
Evgeniy Moiseev scored 23 points, and Roberto Mantovani added 20 to lead the Cuesta College men’s basketball team to a 69-60 win over Allan Hancock on Saturday afternoon.
Both Moiseev and Mantovani had double-doubles. Mantovani had 16 rebounds, and Moiseev pulled down 11 for the Cougars (18-6, 5-0 Western State Conference).
Rafail Eleftheriou was the only other Cuesta player to score in double-digits, with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.
The Cougars had a sharp shooting night, making 46.6 percent from the floor and 34.6 percent from 3-point range. However, Cuesta struggled from the free-throw line, making just 6 of 16 shots for 37.5 percent.
Shane Carney had 16 points to lead Allan Hancock (10-13, 2-4 WSC).
Cuesta women’s basketball team falls to Allan Hancock
The Cuesta College women’s basketball team lost to Allan Hancock 56-43 on Saturday, despite 15 points from Connor Storlie.
Storlie had six steals and six rebounds in the loss for the Cougars (6-15, 1-4 Western State Conference).
Cuesta finished 15-of-53 from the floor, good for
28 percent and was 1-of-12 from 3-point range.
Biba Kirschner and Autumn Russell each had nine points, and Russell had a team-high 13 rebounds.
Allan Hancock led by as many as 22 early in the third quarter.
Cal Poly wrestling team loses sixth in a row
The Cal Poly wrestling team lost its sixth straight meet, falling 36-3 at Wyoming on Saturday.
Colt Shorts was the Mustangs’ only winner, earning a 5-2 decision over Archie Colgan at 157 pounds.
There were two technical falls and a pin among the losses by Cal Poly (1-7).
