Cal Poly forward Hannah Gilbert earns Big West Conference honor
Following her dominant performance in a 25-point rout of Sacramento State last week, Cal Poly’s Hannah Gilbert was selected as the Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.
The 6-foot-3 junior forward scored 23 points on 10-for-18 shooting and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds to secure her fifth double-double of the season. Gilbert’s performance helped the Mustangs (7-6) set the single-game program record with 74 rebounds in their final nonconference game of the season.
The former Morro Bay High standout also blocked two shots during one of Cal Poly’s best defensive outings of the year. A 13-game starter, Gilbert is second on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game and leads the Big West with 9.6 rebounds per contest.
Also nominated for the player of the week award were Long Beach State’s Jewelyn Sawyer, UC Davis’ Dani Nafekh, UC Riverside’s Rejane Verin and UC Santa Barbara’s Makala Roper.
