4 Cal Poly wrestlers eliminated at Southern Scuffle

Four Cal Poly wrestlers were eliminated from the Southern Scuffle collegiate wrestling tournament at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Saturday.

Mustang J.T. Goodwin (197 pounds) was pinned and eliminated by Chip Ness of North Carolina — though not before Goodwin scored a fall over Central Michigan’s Jackson Lewis in just 42 seconds earlier in the day. Goodwin’s overall record is 13-5 on the season.

Colton Shilling (141 pounds) withdrew from his match against Jared Prince of Navy by medical forfeit after sustaining an injury Friday.

Blake Kastl (157 pounds) lost to Air Force’s Zachary Stepan by a 10-7 decision.

Andrew Morgan (174 pounds, unattached, redshirt) lost to Central Michigan’s Christian Brucki 12-3.

Cal Poly’s other nine entrants were eliminated from the tournament Friday.

The 31-team tournament included 30 NCAA All-Americans and two national champions.

The Mustangs return to the dual-meet portion of their schedule by visiting CSU Bakersfield for a Pac-12 matchup on Friday.
