Cal Poly men’s basketball falls to ranked Texas A&M

Texas A&M took care of business at home by taking out the visiting Cal Pol men’s basketball team on Tuesday night in College Station.

A&M’s Tyler Davis was 8 of 9 from the field and finished with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds.

Senior Cal Poly guard Reese Morgan made five three-pointers to finish with a team-high 16 points.

The Mustangs trailed No. 19/20 Texas A&M by 19 points in the first half. But Texas A&M (10-2) closed out the game on a 25-15 run and held Cal Poly under 70 points for just the second time this season.

Senior forward Brian Bennett added 13 points for Cal Poly (6-7).

Facing an SEC opponent for the first and only time since visiting Vanderbilt on Nov. 29, 2001, Cal Poly was held to a 38.6 percent (22-for-57) field goal mark, while the Aggies shot 49.2 percent (31-for-63) from the floor and forced 13 Mustang turnovers.

Cal Poly also got 11 points from junior guard Ridge Shipley, 10 from senior guard David Nwaba and a team-leading seven rebounds by junior forward Zach Gordon.

The Mustangs will open up conference play at Hawaii on Jan. 6.
