Cal Poly women’s basketball team downs Montana State

The Cal Poly women’s basketball tournament finished the ShareSLO Holiday Tournament with a victory, beating Montana State 66-57 on Saturday night at Mott Athletics Center.

Beth Balbierz scored 16 points and Lisa Marie Sanchez added 15 points, as the Mustangs (3-3) rallied from a 28-20 halftime deficit. Sanchez also had seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Cal Poly struggled through a 31.9 percent shooting night, but outscored Montana State 14-7 on second-chance points and 16-4 in the paint.

Morro Bay High grad Hannah Gilbert had nine points and 11 rebounds for Cal Poly, and Amanda Lovely had a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Mustangs held Montana State (4-2) to 27.1 percent shooting from the floor. Riley Nordgaard led the Bobcats with 12 points.

Cal Poly is on the road against Pepperdine on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
