Here’s how much Cal Poly volleyball coach Sam Crosson earned for team’s historic season

Sam Crosson has a nice Christmas present coming his way following the most successful volleyball season in the history of Cal Poly.

On top of the contract extension he signed in April that will pay him $121,440 per season through 2021, Crosson will also pick up a 5 percent bonus for winning the Big West Conference title and another 2 percent for being named the conference coach of the year, adding $8,520 to his 2017 salary, according to his contract obtained by The Tribune.

Crosson led the Mustangs to an undefeated conference title (their first in 10 years) that included a 22-game winning streak and a win over Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. His team finished the season with a 27-3 record (16-0 Big West).

All bonuses are contingent on factors such as player eligibility and whether the volleyball program stayed under its budget.

Crosson said he never thought about the potential bonuses until after the season when he spoke with Cal Poly athletic director Don Oberhelman.

“It's nice, but I would love to be able to defer,” Crosson said. “It takes a full staff, and (assistant coaches) Jason (Borchin) and Caroline (Walters) are phenomenal.”
