Cal Poly’s Peyton Bilo, Clayton Hutchins named Big West cross country athletes of the week

Cal Poly runners Peyton Bilo and Clayton Hutchins were named the Big West Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week on Tuesday after each posted wins at the season-opening Lagoon Open meet at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The duo was also named co-Cal Poly Student-Athletes of the Week.

Bilo won the women’s 5K in 17 minutes 84 seconds in a 19-44 dual win and finished 30 seconds ahead of the field. Her time was 39.72 seconds faster than her runner-up performance in last year’s meet.

Hutchins won the 8K in 24:30.74, leading the Mustangs to a 19-40 win. Hutchins was 1:12.63 faster than his time last year.

Cal Poly will next compete at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17.
