Former Arroyo Grande star Jill Compton named Fresno State Female Athlete of the Year
Former Arroyo Grande High School softball player and Oceano native Jill Compton received a top Fresno State athletic honor on Monday night.
Compton, the ace of a Fresno State softball team that is currently undefeated in the competitive Mountain West Conference, was named the Bob Duncan Bulldog of the Year, an award given to the top female athlete at the university across all sports.

The senior pitcher leads the already crowned Mountain West Conference Champions in wins (23), strikeouts (125) and innings pitched (172) with seven games remaining in the season. Compton was the first Mountain West pitcher to win her first 14 conference games. Fresno State is currently ranked No. 18 in the nation with an overall record of 39-9-1 and 20-0 in league play.
The Bulldogs host Cal Poly in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
