With only one season of high school softball under her belt, Templeton High’s freshman softball star Ashley Daugherty has already decided where she wants to play in college.
The star pitcher verbally committed Monday to play at Texas A&M in College Station.
Daugherty struck out 293 batters this season, and averaged over 10 strikeouts per game. Her strikeout numbers put her in the Top 5 in California and Top 40 in the nation. Daugherty had a .443 batting average, hit four home runs and helped lead the Eagles reach the second round of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. The Eagles finished the season with a 19-7-1 record.
The 5-foot-9 soon-to-be sophomore will join an Aggies program whose softball team ended the 2016 season ranked No. 20 in the nation by ESPN and playing in the talent-heavy Southeastern Conference.
Daugherty was also weighing scholarship offers from Washington, Oregon, Mississippi and Cal State Fullerton.
