Arroyo Grande junior Jack Avrit finished in first place at the CIF-Southern Section Northern Regional Tournament on Monday at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo.

Avrit’s 2-under 69 bested a field of 104 golfers on an overcast and breezy day. By landing in the Top 20, both Jack Avrit and his younger brother Owen Avrit advance to the CIF-Southern Section Individual Golf Championship on May 19 in Desert Hot Springs.

“It was the first time in a couple years we have had a player advance and to get two guys out it was really a good day,” Arroyo Grande coach Jeff Byars said.

Byars said that Jack Avrit was 4-under through the first 13 hole before making a couple of bogeys on the par-71 course.

Avrit’s score was the only score that was under par.

Freshman Owen Avrit, who shot 4-over 75 to finish tied for 12th place, was one of just three freshman to qualify for the Southern Section Championships.

Before the two compete at the Mission Lakes Country Club for a chance to compete in the state tournament, they will join their Arroyo Grande teammates at their home course of Cypress Ridge on Monday for the CIF-Southern Section Team Regional Tournament.
