San Luis Obispo boys and girls soccer earn victories
The San Luis Obispo boys soccer earned a 1-0 win over Atascadero and with it move into first place of the PAC 8 standings. The lone goal came in the 20th minute when a Jake Maino header broke the deadlock. The goal was assisted by Tristan Torres.
Alvaro Santamaria had four saves in goal for the Tigers (15-3-2, 9-1-2 PAC 8), who host St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
Carson Setting had five saves for Atascadero (12-9-1, 4-7-1), who host Arroyo Grande at home on Wednesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
The San Luis Obispo girls soccer team beat Atascadero 2-0 to remain undefeated on the year. Grace Park scored in the first half, assisted by Maddie Johnson and Joella Holmes scored in the second, on an Amber Nunez assist.
Eislee Sohner had three saves in goal for the shutout. San Luis Obispo (20-0-1, 12-0 PAC 8) hosts St. Joseph on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Mission Prep 2, Paso Robles 0
Mission Prep scored in the 19th minute on a penalty and scored again when Emma Kuchinski sent a low cross into the box and found Sammi Fernandez for the goal.
Coach Gil Braga said via press release, “We knew it would be hard to beat Natalya (Marcove). She's a great keeper and I have much respect for her. We knew that we had to insist on taking shots and making sure they were on target.”
The Royals finished with 24 shots —15 of which were on goal.
Gabby Flores made four saves for Mission Prep (12-6-3, 6-3-3 PAC 8), who host Righetti at 6:30 p.m.
Arroyo Grande 4, Pioneer Valley 1
Arroyo Grande (10-5-4, 8-3-1 PAC 8) jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and finished with a 4-1 win.
Cate Boller scored two goals in the first half and Ali Palangi added the third.
Jalyn Schaefer capped the scoring with a penalty kick goal.
Arroyo Grande will take on Atascadero on Wednesday in a game that will determine second place.
