Indiana Fever Star Caitlin Clark Nearing Suspension After Liberty Incident

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever looked to start a winning streak ahead of the WNBA All-Star break, hosting Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty on Saturday night in Indianapolis. The Fever faced the Liberty once so far during the 2026 WNBA season, with New York securing an 83-75 win on June 6.

Just under 90 seconds into the game, Clark already found herself in some trouble. On an inbound play, Liberty center Jonquel Jones set a hard screen on Clark, sending her to the deck. The play freed Marine Johannes, who knocked down a 3-pointer to extend New York's lead. Clark proceeded to get up and had some words with the officials over the no-call before being assessed a technical foul.

Going into the Fever vs. Liberty game, Clark had totaled five technical fouls on the 2026 WNBA season, good for the third-most in the league. But now, the former Iowa guard has picked up her sixth technical of the year, tying her with Phoenix Mercury forward Kahleah Copper for second-most in the league. Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese leads the WNBA with seven techs.

With her latest technical foul, Clark will not only receive a fine, but she is also now two technical fouls away from a suspension. Under WNBA rules, a player is suspended for one game after receiving eight technical fouls in a season. She also receives an additional one-game suspension for every two technical fouls after that (10, 12, 14, etc...).

Clark is now averaging roughly one technical foul every four games in 2026. With 18 games remaining in the WNBA's new 44-game schedule, the Fever star is on pace to receive a one-game suspension.

Clark and the Fever will play their final game before the All-Star break on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET against the Connecticut Sun.
